ImaginASL Performing Arts, a Deaf theatre company from Denver, Colorado is excited to present a thrilling new theatre experience soon to tour across America starting in Denver this June with their riveting live performance of Raymond Luczak’s, “Love in My Veins”, an entertaining, educational and enlightening experience for both the Deaf and Hearing worlds.

By 2050, over 900 million people will have disabling hearing loss. (Source: World Health Organization March 20, 2019). Deaf are particularly vulnerable to contracting HIV because of “language barriers, their unique culture, the paucity of community services, educational programs, and general information directed to this population. The particular barriers that the deaf must face in learning about HIV protection range from inadequate schooling about human sexuality to the scarcity of locally available education programs outside the cities with high rates of HIV infection.“ (Source: US National Library of Medicine, National Institutes of Health).

Love in My Veins shines a spotlight on the tumultuous 25-year relationship between Hugh and Mindy, sharing new ideas from the deaf and hearing worlds, marriage, family, and AIDS.

The playwright, Raymond Luczak is a Deaf actor, author, and writer from Minnesota, best known for his films, books, and plays. He is an advocate for Deaf rights and HIV education. The respectable actors are Bellamie Bachleda from Ohio and Albert Tharpe III from Colorado. It will be directed by Martina Bell from L.A., founder of Quiet Mile Pictures. The cast and director are all Deaf, and only Sign Language will be used on stage. The different signing styles will make this play especially interesting for people who are just learning sign language.

Hearing audiences will have a unique opportunity to walk in a Deaf person’s shoes, like watching a foreign language movie with captions, in a Charlie Chaplin silent film style performance.

Catch ” Love in My Veins” June 22nd, 2019 at 2 pm and 7 pm and June 23rd, 2019 at 2 pm, at The Loft at Ellie Caulkins Opera House in Denver, located at 909 14th Street, Denver, CO 80202.
